Odrowąż-Coates WHAT WOULD KORCZAK DO? Reflections on Education, Well-being and Children’s Rights in the Times of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Note about the book:

The book is part of the UNESCO Janusz Korczak Chair’s book series, published under the patronage of the Polish Commission for UNESCO, as an outcome and a resource for the International Summer Schools, organized since 2006, at the Maria Grzegorzewska University in Warsaw, the city of Korczak. This newly edited volume is dedicated to Janusz Korczak’s heritage and its relevance to current affairs, especially to situations caused by the recent pandemic. The themes presented in this book include educational and social problems with a particular emphasis on human and children’s rights, social inequalities and access to education. The chapters in the book were authored by both well-established academics and by emerging researchers from Argentina, Germany, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey, USA and Poland. The book includes an essay on digital activism by Waliya Yohanna Joseph, which was awarded the Janusz Korczak Prize for Global South 2020.

Collectively, the chapters in this book intercede in scholarly responses to the global Covid-19 pandemic. Three prominent lines of thought make the book worthy of publication: 1) intersectional readings of children, 2) a valorisation of knowledge and experience from the Global South and 3) a prioritisation of emerging academic voices.” From the book review by Prof. Dr Marthinus Conradie, University of the Free State, South Africa.

What connects all these texts, both case studies and essays, is the attitude of their authors. A deep pedagogical sensitivity and critical awareness in reflecting on education, well-being and children’s rights in the times of the Covid-19 pandemic.” From the book review by Prof. Dr Aneta Ostaszewska, University of Warsaw, Poland.
