LIDIA FILUS, Ph.D.
Lidia Filus has been Professor and Chair of Mathematics at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. She is an experienced educator and scientists specialized in applied mathematics interested in interdisciplinary research with focus on modeling of complex systems. Her background and accomplishments are impressive. Dr. Filus received her Master and Ph.D. degree in Mathematics at the University of Warsaw. She was awarded research fellowships from the Center for Operations Research and Econometrics at the University of Louvain in Belgium, and at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. During her professional career she also has worked at the Warsaw School of Economics, the Polish Academy of Sciences, the University of Kansas, and Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago (NEIU). In addition, she was a participant in the International Semester of Mathematical Methods in Economics sponsored by UNESCO, a visiting scholar at the Mathematics Research Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a visiting professor at Fern University in Hagen, Germany. Her work is recognized in the USA as well as internationally. Dr. Filus is frequently invited to give presentations at international conferences, join scientific committees of international conferences and serve on editorial boards of scientific journals. She is a recipient of many awards including several NEIU faculty excellent awards for her research and service. Her leadership positions at NEIU include: Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Chair of the Faculty Council on Academic Affairs, Chair of the Faculty Senate, Chair of the University Planning and Budget Council, NEIU rep to Illinois Board of Higher Education Working Group on Redesigning Program Review, NEIU Co-Director and Coordinator of the Illinois Professional Learners Partnership: Enhancing Teacher Education through Statewide Partnership (grant funded by the US Dept. of Education), Co-Principal Investigator(Co-PI) of the National Science Foundation Grant under the Improving Undergraduate STEM Education program, project title "Peer Enhanced Experiential Research in STEM (PEERS)", Co-Chair of the Internal Advisory Council of the Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative (ChicagoCHEC) NCI/NIH funded U54 grant Comprehensive Partnership to Advance Cancer Health Equity, and recently Co-PI of the ChicagoCHEC.
