OPEN LECTURE
Title: From Diagnosis to Prevention: Building Student Support Systems Through Data-Based Decision Making and Early Intervention
Abstract:
Schools today face growing challenges related to learning difficulties, student mental health, and the implementation of inclusive education. Traditional support models often rely on identifying problems only after significant academic or behavioral difficulties have emerged. In response to these challenges, increasing attention has been given to systems that emphasize early identification, prevention, and timely intervention.
This lecture will present U.S. experiences with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and the Response to Intervention (RTI) framework. Key topics will include data-based decision making, progress monitoring, and the organization of academic and social-emotional supports across multiple levels of intervention intensity. Particular attention will be given to the role of these approaches in promoting inclusive education and addressing the diverse needs of learners.
The lecture will conclude with a discussion of the opportunities and challenges associated with adapting selected elements of these frameworks within the Polish educational context.
WORKSHOP FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS
Title: From Data to Action: Using Educational Data to Monitor Student Progress and Support Student Development
Abstract:
This interactive workshop will focus on the use of educational data to monitor student progress, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and support evidence-based decision making in educational settings. Participants will be introduced to the principles of Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM) and related approaches used to assess student growth and guide instructional planning.
Through hands-on activities, participants will analyze sample student data, interpret progress-monitoring graphs, identify indicators of intervention effectiveness, and discuss practical applications of these methods in both educational practice and research. The workshop will also provide an opportunity to explore potential research directions related to inclusive education, early intervention, and data-driven educational decision making within the Polish context.
The session is designed to encourage discussion, collaboration, and the development of research ideas that bridge theory, practice, and educational policy.
