The lecture abstact: We live in an accelerating world, and higher education is no exception. The emergence of generative AI marks a qualitative shift in this acceleration: it is no longer only our communication and information-seeking that speeds up, but the very processes of thinking, writing, and knowledge-making that constitute learning. When AI produces the forms of intellectual outputs in seconds, the slow and uncertain process required from a person to develop their own understanding, voice and relationship with knowledge is placed under unprecedented pressure.
This lecture argues that slow pedagogy is not simply a reaction against speed. It is a response that is theoretically grounded and historically rooted in the logic of linear and productive time which shaped Western education long before AI existed. The lecture draws on three analytical traditions, namely the decolonisation of time through embodied knowing, the ethics of care and relational learning, and postdigital positionality, and develops the multilayered nature of slow pedagogy. The temporal, relational, epistemological, and spatial layers reframe slowness as a deliberate and principled form of educational resistance.
The lecture raises three central questions: What does acceleration destroy in education, and why does it matter? What can slowness mean in a postdigital environment where physical and digital spaces are inseparable? And whose slowness counts as resistance – and whose is simply falling behind?
The lecture is rooted in the lecturer’s own research experience, from critical EdTech practice to the current development of a conceptual model of slow pedagogy and invites the audience to contribute to that model through structured dialogue.

Her research interests include the intersection of educational technology, teacher education, and critical pedagogy, with a growing focus on the question of what slow and deep learning can mean in an age of accelerating digital transformation. Her practice-based research has moved from the development of preservice teachers’ intercultural competence to the critical examination of how technology reshapes the conditions of learning.
