Qualification procedure for the Doctoral School run by the Maria Grzegorzewska University

The qualification procedure for the MGU Doctoral School consists of the following stages:

  1. registration of the candidate in the IRK electronic registration system and submitting through it the documents required in the admissions procedure;
  2. verification of documents submitted by candidates and awarding scores in the recruitment criteria;
  3. interview;
  4. submission of an application, declarations and original documents required in the admissions procedure by candidates qualified for admission as a result of the admissions procedure.

During the selection procedure, the admissions committee awards candidates with admissions points for:

  1. the grade point average for the period of second-cycle studies or long-cycle master's studies or for the period of studies completed abroad, recognised as equivalent to second-cycle studies or long-cycle Master's studies;
  2. the assessment of an original research project (in the field of psychology, pedagogy, sociological sciences);
  3. the candidate's scientific achievements;
  4. the result of the interview, including knowledge of the English language enabling the candidate to participate in classes conducted in that language.

A person may be admitted to the Doctoral School if she/he holds the professional title of Master of Science, Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent, and:

  1. has found a scientific supervisor (potential promoter), from the list of supervisors proposed by the Scientific Council of the Doctoral School and previously published on the website of the Doctoral School, willing to provide scientific supervision over the preparation of the dissertation;
    or
  2. has found an alternate academic teacher holding the degree of Doctor Habilitatus or the title of a Professor willing to supervise the preparation of the dissertation.

Foreigners may undertake and pursue education at the Doctoral School based on:

  1. international agreements, in accordance with the terms set out in these agreements;
  2. agreements concluded with foreign entities by the University, in accordance with the terms set out in these agreements;
  3. the decision of the Minister of Science and Higher Education;
  4. the decision of the director of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange in relation to its scholarship holders;
  5. the decision of the director of the National Science Center on granting funds for the implementation of basic research in the form of a research project, internship or scholarship, qualified for funding through a competition;
  6. the Rector’s administrative decision.

Admission to the Doctoral School may be applied for by a foreigner who speaks Polish to a degree enabling him/her to undertake education in this language.

The following candidates may apply for admission to studies under the rules applicable to Polish citizens:

  1. foreigners - citizens of a Member State of the European Union, the Swiss Confederation or a Member State of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, members of their families, residing in the territory of the Republic of Poland;
  2. foreigners who have been granted a permanent residence permit or are a long-term resident of the European Union;
  3. foreigners who have been granted a temporary residence permit in connection with the circumstances referred to in art. 159 sec. 1 or art. 186 of the Act of 12 December 2013 on foreigners (Journal of Laws 2021.2354, i.e. of 2021.12.20);
  4. foreigners with refugee status granted in the Republic of Poland or enjoying temporary protection or subsidiary protection within the territory of the Republic of Poland;
  5. foreigners with a certificate confirming their knowledge of Polish as a foreign language, referred to in art. 11a sec. 2 of the Act of 7 October 1999 on the Polish language (Journal of Laws 2021.672, i.e. of 2021.04.12) at least at the B1 level of language proficiency;
  6. holders of the Pole’s Card or persons who have been issued a decision on the determination of Polish origin;
  7. foreigners who are a spouse, ascendant or descendant of a citizen of the Republic of Poland, residing within the territory of the Republic of Poland.
