Biography

  • Scientific career:

    titular professor (University of Warsaw 2008) of humanities (pedagogy) - incl. based on "Education from a local and international perspective" (IBE, Warsaw 2006); - associate professor at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of the University of Bialystok (1995) and at the Educational Research Institute in Warsaw (1998); - habilitation (pedagogy - methodology of educational research) Faculty of Educational Studies, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (1993) - based on "School network and access to education" (PWN, Warsaw 1992); - doctorate in humanities (pedagogy), Faculty of Humanities, University of Gdańsk (1976) - based on the work "Optimizing the network of general education"; - master's degree in economic geography at the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences, University of Warsaw (1971).

    Since 2014 employed at The Maria Grzegorzewska University. Author of over 180 publications.

    Participation in research projects / international cooperation:

    "TALIS 2008 and 2013" - an international OECD project examining teachers and school principals - national project manager in 2007-2015; -"Education for All" (coordination by UNESCO), member of the Polish team, 1999 – 2000; - "Scenario Project" - concerning the strategy of vocational education (coordination of CEDEFOP, UKIE, University of Amsterdam), member of the Polish team, 1998-2000; -"Access to education in Poland" - UNDP coordination, member of the team, 1998; - "Small schools in Poland" - UNDP coordination., member of the team, 1999; - "Rural Development" - UNDP coordination, member of the team, 2000; - "The education system after the reform: conclusions and recommendations" - coordination: Center for Research Policy and Higher Education at the University of Warsaw (World Bank grant), team member, 1998-1999; - "Modern Trends and Actors In Education", member of an international team (Visegrad Group - Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary) - common foundations of education policy, 1995-1996.

    Since 2012, a member of the International Association for Educational Planning (ISEP, USA); - Lectures for students and doctoral students within the Socrates Program (Finland, 2001); - Participation in scientific workshops on school network planning - at the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP, UNESCO) in Paris (1999); - Scientific internship under the "Hospitality Scheme" in Oxford (Nuffield College) on educational inequalities (1992); - “National correspondent” at the Council of Europe for secondary education in Poland (based in Warsaw), delegated by the Ministry of National Education (1993-1995).

    Functions:

    • 2005 - 2012 Vice-Dean for Science at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of the University of Bialystok;
    • 2010 - 2012 head of the Department of Social Policy at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of the University of Bialystok;
    • 2005 - 2012 chairman of the Program Council of the Trans Humana Publishing House (at the Faculty of P&P of the University of Bialystok);
    • 1995 - 2010 head of the Department of Preschool and Early School Education at the Faculty of P&P of the University of Bialystok;
    • 1985 - 1986 head of the laboratory "Research on the conditions for the development of the education system" at the Institute of Pedagogical Research;
    • 1976 - 1982 head of the Department of Educational Economics at the Institute of Pedagogy (now IBE).
