Biography

  • Born in 1954 in Łódź (Poland), studied education, at the University in Łódź, completed his doctorate in 1984 and worked in the area of (self- and alternative-) educational research at the Univeristy in Łódź was Professor of Pedagogy (1999-2009) and ab 2015 is Director of Department of Theory of Education. In 2004 –2010 he was Professor of the Philosophy of Education and Rectors at the High School of Pedagogy in Łódź. Since 1994-2019 has been on the board of the Polish Pedagogy Comitee for Science Academy in Warsaw, of which he was President from 2012 to 2019.

    Since 2010 is Professor Academy of Special Education in the Institute of Pedagogy, Department of Theoretical Foundations of Pedagogy and Educational Discourses. Śliwerski founded the Journal of Educational Studies (Studia z Teorii Wychowania) and is Editor of the four international Handbooks of educational studies (Gdańsk 2006-2010). Between 1984 and 2013 Śliwerski took up guest professorships: at Masaryks in Brno, Prague Karl, Ostrava and Pardubice Universities in Tschechien, at Bratislava, Trnava and Presov Universities in Slovakia and at Mǘnster, Giessen and Freiburg Universities in German. He headed up numerous projects in educational research and authored over 750 publications in his own research areas: humanistic education, anthropological and philosophical as well as empirical and practical discourse in modern and postmodern education in a comparative perspective.
