XX World Congress of Sociology in Melbourne

Last week social sciences witnessed the XX World Congress of Sociology in Melbourne.
It is an important event for social sciences worldwide that takes place regularly, every 4 years and reunites researchers from all our globe.
We were represented in Melbourne by 2 scientists from our university:

  • prof. Anna Odrowąż-Coates, who was sessions' organizer and chair for the RC 25 Language and Society and presented two papers pertaining to participatory youth research, and
  • Joanna Pawłowska (MA, MsC) Doctoral Student of our Doctoral School and the Chairperson of the Young Researchers of Polish Pedagogical Association, who presented a qualitative part of her PhD research dedicated to family name changes of women on entering a marriage.

Prof. Odrowąż-Coates was unimously elected the Board Member for RC 25 ISA for the second term, she also continues serving as the Editor in Chief for the ISA journal Language, Discourse & Society (2239-4192)

In Melbourne social sciences research was presented by 5000 scientists. The book of abstract, despite sharp selection and rigorous review, consists of almost 1000 pages : PDF.

International Sociological Association (ISA) was first established by UNESCO in 1948.
