Maria Stefania Grzegorzewska was born in 1887 and died in 1967. She was a pedagogue, psychologist, professor and the pioneer of special pedagogy in Poland. She has gained her education in various European Universities - the Jagiellonian University in Cracow, the International Pedagogical Faculty in Brussels, in London and the Sorbonne in Paris.

What is important, in 1922 our Patroness founded the State Institute of Special Education, which after transformations became the Akademia Pedagogiki Specjalnej im. Marii Grzegorzewskiej (the Maria Grzegorzewska University), which exists today.

Our Patroness Maria Grzegorzewska pioneered the systematic research on pedagogy aimed at persons with disabilities and established the basics of this pedagogy. She was especially interested in pedagogy and psychology of persons who are Blind or have low vision as well as with deafblind persons.
